"I think that´s fine, nobody can afford buying every album they MIGHT like. Speaking on my own behalf, I don´t mind people d/l our stuff to check it out, I think my main problem is all these fucking torrent/sharing sites that hosts our music, taking money for advertising, not sharing anything with anyone but themselves...
My other point was, if our music is going to be available for free, I´d like to control it, make sure it´s all cool and the quality is there, the artwork is there, and WE get the traffic, the email addresses, etc. After all, WE made the music, not fucking Rapidshare or whomever.
I think downloading free music can be a great thing for bands like us as the music has potential to spread fast and would serve as a great promotional vehicle, but the fans need to be fans, and go to the shows, buy a t-shirt or another CD at the show, anything, to support the band. Just because the music is free, doesn´t mean no one paid the studio bill, the instruments, the equipment, the mastering, etc etc. Making a record (not the ones you make on the computer at home) is very expensive. For those out there thinking the label pays the records, the videos, the release parties - think again. I remember when Earache put on a big release party for The Smell of Rain in London, way back when - who do you think paid for all the fun? Yours truly, was who, down to the last Heineken. Videos? the artist pays it all, ever seen the Bad News episode where they realize they´re paying for the catering? That´s reality, and that´s the way bands WOULD behave around their catering if they´d realized that they´re paying for it all, down to the last donut
Downloading with no intention of ever buying/paying for music again - makes you a total douche, though."
